Nimbin Neighbourhood & Information Centre

Community Development Projects: NNIC is currently working on numerous sustainability initiatives relating to Energy, Food Security and Transport in particular. NNIC held a 2 day community forum in relation to sustainability in 2009. A second community planning day was held in 2011 and the Sustainable Nimbin Community Plan was updated and significantly expanded. In 2008 NNIC coordinated a solar packaging project as a result of which 52 x 1kWh grid-feed solar systems were installed in the community, as well as 2 x 2kWh grid feed systems – one at NNIC and one at the Town Hall (Nimbin School of Arts). In 2009 NNIC secured funds from DEEWR to roll out a $300,000.00 community solar farm initiative which is now fully operational.

In 2010 NNIC obtained $50,000.00 funding under the Northern Rivers Food Links program to further its Nimbin Food Security project.

NNIC is committed to working with the community to develop the capacity of the community to respond to the energy and peak oil crises, economic down turn and climate change, and to facilitate a sustainable community.
